LAX – Empty return appointments must match the Empty container returning
Effective Friday 3/10/23
For empty returns You must identify the container by SSL when scheduling appointments in the E-Modal system. The container number MUST match the container that you bring to the facility. If you bring a different container instead of the container you made the appointment for the driver will receive a trouble ticket reading “No valid appointment”
Follow the Empty return schedule before scheduling appointments to ensure we are accepting for that date and shift
LAX – TMF PierPASS Rate Increase Effective November 1st 2023
NOTICE TO DIRECT PAY CUSTOMERS
Effective November 1, 2023 the Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF) will increase to $40.00 per TEU and $75.00 per FEU.
Direct Pay accounts claiming and paying for Import Containers prior to the rate increase will still be responsible for the entire new fee if the containers move on or after
November 1st, 2023 .
If an Import container is claimed/paid for at the old rates but moves on or after November 1, 2023, then the additional fees will need to be collected after the move.
Containers may be claimed at the new rate after close of business (6pm PDT) Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
Do not attempt to unclaim and reclaim unmoved Import containers claimed prior to 6pm on Tuesday Oct 31st as this could prevent the container from being released on or after November 1st. To minimize the administrative burden, we recommend that you delay claiming/prepaying containers until after 6 pm on Tuesday , October 31st for containers anticipated to move on or after Wednesday November 1, 2023.
PierPASS Customer Service Center representatives will contact you after November 1st to resolve any balance(s) due.
Direct Pay Exports will be billed based on the fee rate in place at the time of the gate transaction and do not require prepayment.
If you have questions, please contact the PierPASS Customer Service Center at 877-863-3310.
LAX/OAK -Reminder as of June Last Year – Changes to LFD and Demurrage Displays
Drayage Community,
In response to the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, Hapag Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), and Yang Ming requested that TraPac stop collecting their ocean carrier demurrage effective Friday, 06/24/2022. As a result of this, two important changes occurred to TraPac.com.
- Last Free Day
- For LAX, the LFD for Hapag, HMM, and Yang Ming containers is no longer visible
- For OAK, the LFD was set to a dummy date of 12/31/2022. In both cases, please confirm your LFD with your ocean carrier
- Demurrage Payments – payments for demurrage will no longer be collected by TraPac. Please discuss with your ocean carrier their new demurrage payment methods
- For both LAX and Oakland, the demurrage amount will show $0
As this is all rapidly developing, changes could occur quickly, but we expect a container that owes demurrage to one of these two lines, the ocean carrier will send TraPac a hold via EDI. If a SSL hold is present, or you have questions about the last free day or demurrage charges and payments, please contact your steamship line.
TraPac is committed to doing our best to keep you and your customers in the loop of important changes. Thanks for your patience and understanding

LAX Effective 2/20 appointments are required for empty pick up
Effective next Monday 2/20 will require appointments to pick up empties. Below are instructions on how to do so provided by eModal.
“The truckers should be familiar with making empty pick appointments (e.g., ITS) and empty pick pre-advices (PCT, Pier A). For an appointment, the truckers will have to select an available date and time (based on what TraPac makes available in your slot schedule). For pre-advice terminals, they only select the desired date – and the terminal does not have the ability to set capacities or filters.
As far as what is required to make the appointment, the trucker will need to provide the booking / EDO number and the equipment type, IF that booking has more than one equipment type. (If there is only one equipment type, it will prefill for them.) Shipping line should automatically prefill for them based on the booking / EDO entered.”
LAX – Grace period has changed to 30 minutes before and after appointment time
Effective today Saturday 2/11 we will be going back to 1-Hour appointment slots .
The grace period will change to 60-minutes,
30 minutes before and 30 min after your appointment time .
HOOT GATES – no grace offered after 07:00 am please be on time
LAX – Reminder to utilize weekend gates! SAT 1/13 and SUN 1/14
Drayage Community,
As a reminder, we strongly recommend utilizing the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) gates for pickups and drop-offs. TraPac hosts gates on Saturday and Sunday that are highly underutilized. Depending on your Ocean Carrier, imports that discharged Thursday and Friday, Saturday and Sunday count towards their free time, and if appointment opportunities this weekend are forgone, we will not be able to extend your free time if appointments for the weekdays fill up.
Please reference TraPac’s Appointment Policy below, and be reminded that TraPac no longer collects demurrage or calculates container last free days. Please contact your Ocean Carrier to confirm Last Free day and demurrage calculations.
Thanks,
TraPac Management
